Note from Charles Williams, 2009 H.M.C.C. Activity Director:
The 2nd Annual Halloween Car Show was so much more than a huge success, it was a stupendous event that doubled last years efforts. We had 95 entries of some really nice cars. There were 37 Mopars, 28 GMs, 19 Fords and then several other brands of cars. Registration and parking went really smooth for the show, thanks to members who stepped up and did a great job. The Blast From The Past Club did an outstanding job on judging the cars for us; they really had their work cut out for them. The Dead DJs kept the heartbeat of the show alive all day with the music, announcements, giving out door prizes, handling the costume contest, and even joining in on the Twist Competition [above video]. The vendors had a good time as well, each one said they did well and would be back again next year. The National Museum of Funeral History had a record breaking day in sales, and were really happy with the show. Thanks to the hard work on both the Silent Auction and the 50/50 tickets we raised over $1,000 on these.
The presentation of the trophies went really well thanks to the use of the auditorium, the video equipment and sound system, and along with all of the pictures that were taken of the cars that were displayed on the big screen. A lot of people have never seen their cars on a big screen before, and they thought it was outstanding.
I just cannot thank all of the members and non members who had stepped up and came forward and helped out in the many duties that were required to put on one of the best open out door car shows this city has ever seen.
Thank You One and All!
Our 2008 show raised $2,000.00 that went to The Star of Hope, The DePelchin Childrens Center, The Houston Food Bank, and The Shriners Burn Hospital. For 2009 the H.M.C.C. donated $1200 to each of the 2008 charities! Moreover, the club also donated $750.00 to the Harris County Sheriffs Offices Reserve Deputy Christmas Teddy Bear and Easter Bunny Program, and $400.00 to The Walter P. Chrysler Museum. The 2009 show raised over $6000!. THANKS to all the fine rides that attended the show and made the charity donations possible! |
